Antique and still handsome – RARE - large, sturdy basket made from flat woven splint wood in a rich honey color. These baskets were generally made in America and used to carry all manner of gear – cooking, trapping, fishing gear by hunters, guides or those who spent their time in the mountains or forests.
The basket has a carved wooden handle at the top, still firmly attached - canvas shoulder straps with metal buckles. Antique trapper baskets are difficult to find in good condition. This one is amazing for its age although as might be expected, it does show some wear with some staining and rust on the canvas straps and buckles and minor breakage and a few dark marks in the weave. All in all, the basket is sturdy, sits nicely and shows beautifully.
Very nice to use as intended but also a lovely décor piece for the hearth or even a wall. Store kindling, greens or hang in a cabin or lake home as a statement piece.
Measuremennts: 20 inches tall not including the handle 13 ½ inches wide 12 inches back to front The bottom is rectangular and measures approximately 12 by 9 inches
